A STATEMENT FROM OUR MANAGING DIRECTOR:
''Our ambition is to operate to BRC standards and principles, and we continue to develop our systems and processes with this in mind.
Where we are slightly different is that a big part of what makes Planet Doughnut work is our ability to remain creative, flexible and agile, particularly around bespoke product development. We don't want to introduce unnecessary restrictions that compromise that where there isn't a clear technical or food safety benefit.
We're also manufacturing a low-risk bakery product, which forms part of our risk-based approach. Given the nature of the product and our manufacturing process, we don't currently believe that achieving full BRC certification would materially improve the safety or quality of the product beyond the robust standards and controls we already operate.
For that reason, our approach is to work to BRC principles while also being completely open to customer-specific technical audits. We would cover the cost of any audits required as part of onboarding or ongoing approval.
We find that larger customers will often want to complete their own supplier approval and audit process regardless of whether BRC accreditation is held, so we're very comfortable working in that way.
That said, we completely appreciate the importance of BRC within our customers' supplier approval process, and we'll happily talk you through our approach, standards and the work we've done when I visit.''
