FUNDRAISING

At Planet Doughnut, corporate responsibility extends far beyond producing quality products. It’s about the impact we have on the community, the environment and the larger world around us. Once of the key ways we live out this responsibility is through our commitment to charity fundraising and environmental sustainability.

Corporate Charity Fundraising:

We believe that businesses have the power to drive positive social change. As part of our corporate charity initiatives, Planet Doughnut has selected one national charity, Macmillan Cancer Support  and two local charities, The Movement Centre & The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital Charity.

Our approach to charity is not just about providing doughnuts on the day, but it’s about engaging our staff, customers, companies and the community in raising awareness and generating support through the sale of our doughnuts for causes that matter to us an individuals and as a company.

From donating doughnuts at events such as Golf Days and Charity Balls, where the total profit from the sales of the day goes directly to the charity, we aim to foster a culture where charity is not an obligation but it’s a fundamental aspect of who we are as a company.

As a company we played our part in raising over £400,000 at the Greene King Charity Day & Gala Dinner in May.  Alongside the profit from all the sales of the doughnuts, Planet Doughnut created a ‘Doughnut Chipping’ competition, where competitors, on the 18th hole, paid and entered the competition where they had to chip a golf ball sized doughnut into a golf bag, 25m away.

In October, our support helped raised almost £4,000 for The Movement Centre, which provides specialist treatment for children facing movement difficulties. Through targeted training therapy, The Movement Centre helps children gain more control over their movements and improves their quality of life.

In November, we will be teaming up with The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital Charity at their charity ‘Bridgerton Ball’ where we are providing doughnuts as the table favours. All the money raised on the night will go towards supporting patients and staff at the hospital, providing state of the art equipment and facilities and providing extra comfort to those in need.

More than Giving

Corporate responsibility

While charity is one piece of the puzzle, corporate responsibility at Planet Doughnut is woven into every aspect of our operations. From ethical sourcing to environmental sustainability, we have established initiatives that align with our values and vision for a better future.

  • Environmental Sustainability:
At the core of our sustainability strategy is a commitment to reducing waste and carbon emissions. We proudly maintain a zero food waste policy, where surplus doughnuts that don’t meet quality standards are repurposed into delicious Bread & Butter pudding, shared with staff and local businesses. This initiative not only cuts down on waste but fosters stronger community ties.

  • Plant-Based Products:
Our dough is 100% plant-based, reflecting our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and supporting healthier, more sustainable food systems. By using exclusively plant-based ingredients, we help reduce resource-intensive animal agriculture, which is a significant contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions.

  • Local Sourcing and Reduced Carbon Footprint:
We prioritize hiring local staff, all of whom live within a 12-mile radius of our bakery, to reduce the need for long commutes and lower our carbon footprint. We also partner with suppliers who are RSPO certified, ensuring that the palm oil we use is sustainably sourced with full traceability.
  • Mixed Recycling:
All plastic waste is meticulously cleaned, segregated, and reprocessed into plastic pellets, which are then reintegrated into the plastic manufacturing industry. This approach eliminates the risk of improper recycling practices by third-party waste handlers, ensuring full accountability for our plastic waste management. We maintain a strict no mixed-recycling policy to uphold these standards.

A Holistic Approach to Corporate Responsibility:
Corporate responsibility is not a singular act but a collective effort across all areas of business. At Planet Doughnut, it is about creating a sustainable business model that is good for people, the planet, and the economy. From our charity fundraising efforts to our eco-friendly operations, we strive to be a positive force for change.By fostering a culture of responsibility, we encourage our staff, suppliers, and customers to join us on this journey toward a more ethical and sustainable future. We see corporate responsibility as a long-term commitment — one that shapes our decisions today and drives our vision for the years ahead.
