These delectable treats are perfect for corporate entities, educational institutions, and community organisations looking to commemorate Earth Day.  Each doughnut in our limited edition collection pays tribute to the Earth and its endangered wildlife.

WHAT IS EARTH MONTH?
April marks Earth Month, a period dedicated to heightening environmental consciousness and addressing the pressing issues impacting the natural world. Throughout this month, global leaders and environmental advocates unite to foster sustainable development, propose climate solutions, and mitigate our collective carbon footprint. These conversations are vital given the escalating repercussions of climate change, which danger not only human existence but also jeopardise the integrity of all life forms on our planet.

EARTH DAY - 22ND APRIL
Earth Day is an annual celebration that honours the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earth's natural resources for future generations. The theme ‘Planet vs Plastics’ raises awareness regarding the health hazards associated with plastics on animals and the Earth.

WHAT IS PLANET DOUGHNUT DOING?
At PD, we embrace the principles of sustainability every day, making every month Earth month for us. As a zero-waste food bakery, we implement practices such as reintegrating excess dough back into our production process for reuse.  All of our proprietary doughnut bases are vegan, and we are excited to announce the expansion of our plant- based range, which will be launched very soon.

Additionally, our nationwide packaging boxes are entirely recyclable, further minimizing our environmental footprint. Furthermore, we are proud to have established a partnership with FedEx, a company committed to achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040. Through these initiatives, we strive to contribute positively to the health of our planet while delivering quality products to our customers.

INTRODUCING THE EARTH MONTH DOUGHNUTS

Planet Doughnut has crafted a special Earth-shaped doughnut in celebration of Earth Day and Month, paying homage to our planet and the appreciation we have for its beauty and diversity. Sadly, human activities have directly transformed over 70% of Earth's land, primarily for agricultural purposes and livestock farming. These practices have led to widespread deforestation, land degradation, biodiversity loss, and pollution, significantly impacting terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems. In short, our planet is also an endangered species.

Our Polar Bear doughnut serves as a poignant reminder of the challenges facing these majestic creatures. While climate change stands as the primary threat to polar bear survival, they also face additional risks from industrial activities in their habitat.  The melting sea ice, a consequence of climate change, exacerbates human-polar bear conflicts as bears venture farther in search of food during the summer months. Dipped in white chocolate icing and topped with coconut, this doughnut has a macfil centre and vegan chocolate chips.

The bumblebee doughnut highlights the decline of bumblebee’s which is primarily attributed to habitat loss. While the obvious loss of habitat, such as converting meadows into residential areas, is evident, habitat degradation is equally detrimental. Even seemingly green meadows can lose their floral diversity—critical for bumblebee attraction—due to herbicide or fertilizer use, or drought conditions. This custard filled doughnut features yellow white chocolate icing and black drizzle.

The ladybug doughnut showcases the crucial role these animals play as nature’s unsung heroes. They serve as natural pest control agents, offering significant benefits to humans by safeguarding plants and crops. This makes them invaluable allies for farmers and gardeners alike, substantially reducing reliance on chemical pesticides. By minimizing pesticide usage, ladybugs help mitigate environmental harm and prevent contamination of soil and water sources. In fact, scientists estimate that ladybugs have the potential to save hundreds of crops each year from common pests, fostering sustainable and productive agricultural practices. Filled with jam and dipped in red white chocolate icing, this doughnut features vegan chocolate chips and black drizzle.

Our sea turtle doughnut highlights the significant threats human activities have on these majestic creatures. Fishing operations pose severe risks through entanglement-induced mortality, habitat destruction, and disruptions to the food web. Additionally, direct exploitation by humans for food and various products such as oil, leather, and shells contributes to the decline of sea turtle populations. Pollution, from plastics, discarded fishing gear, petroleum by-products, and other debris, leads to ingestion and entanglement-related fatalities, while light pollution disrupts nesting behaviours and misguides hatchlings. Filled with jam, this doughnut is dipped in green white chocolate icing and green drizzle.

In addition to celebrating Earth Day, Planet Doughnut has created this special doughnut as a nod to the possibility of life existing on other planets. This doughnut invites us to contemplate the mysteries of the universe and the potential for life to exist in distant corners of space. It sparks curiosity and encourages us to consider our place in the cosmos, fostering a sense of connection to the broader universe and the potential for discovery beyond our own planet. This doughnut is dipped in a white glaze with a blue drizzle and PD edible topper.
